At the Board of Medicine meeting in Tampa on June 7th, 2013, Chairman Dr. Zachariah P. Zachariah presented two medical students with the Chairman’s Recognition Award for exemplifying the professionalism, moral character, compassion, and intellect essential to the future leaders of the medical profession.
Ricardo A. Molero Bravo, a third year medical student at the University of Central Florida (UCF) College of Medicine, received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences and a Master’s degree in Medical Sciences from the University of South Florida. Working at the Florida Hospital Gynecologic Oncology practice, he assisted with a research project related to sentinel lymph node mapping for endometrial cancer patients; this project resulted in a Focused Plenary presentation at the Society of Gynecologic Oncology 43rd Annual Meeting on Women’s Cancer in 2012 and was published in the peer-reviewed journal, Gynecologic Oncology. For his efforts, Mr. Molero Bravo was awarded a summer scholarship in 2011 from the non-profit organization, Hearing the Ovarian Cancer Whisper (HOW). He has demonstrated leadership in his field as the 2011-2012 Chair of Social Affairs and Community Relations of the UCF College of Medicine Women’s Health Interest Group and the 2011-2012 Treasurer of the UCF College of Medicine Family Medicine Interest Group. Mr. Molero Bravo is proficient in both English and Spanish and spends many of his weekends participating in community service and sports activities which further confirms his vigorous work ethic and compassionate spirit. He expressed his gratitude to the Board for the award and said, “I’m just happy to be here. Thank you so much.”
The Board also recognized Lisa Hayman, a member of the Class of 2014 at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. Ms. Hayman has an exceptional ability to lead others, as evidenced by her role as Class Co-President and as an officer in several student organizations. In her junior year, she was inducted into the Alpha Omega
Alpha Honor Medical Society and is accomplished in the field of biomedical research.
Ms. Hayman has established herself as an active community-minded individual through her participation in community service activities such as Community Outreach Clinics, Streetlight, and a mission trip to La Victoria in the Dominican Republic. She is a member of the American Medical Association, Pediatric Interest Group, Interdisciplinary Oncology Interest Group, and the College of Medicine Peer Advisory Committee. Ms. Hayman thanked the Board and Chairman Dr. Zachariah stating, “I’m very honored to receive this recognition award, and I’m very excited for my future in medicine—hopefully here in Florida.”
