Wrong Site/Patient/Procedure Surgeries: Solutions for Prevention

The Florida Board of Medicine has been holding meetings and conducting research on incidents of wrong site/person/procedure surgeries in Florida. While the overall number of incidents (when compared to the number of surgeries performed) is low, these “never” events are often a result of system errors and are preventable.

The Board will be conducting a workshop and would like to invite interested parties to participate in the discussion. We are asking that your organization discuss this matter prior to sending a representative to the meeting with possible solutions and ideas for prevention. The deadline to submit supporting documentation is March 20, 2017.

The meeting will convene at the Sheraton Suites, 555 NW 62nd Street, Fort Lauderdale, Florida on April 6, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. or soon thereafter. We look forward to your participation in this discussion.

If you have any questions or wish to submit information for the Board, please feel free to contact the Board of Medicine Office at (850) 245-4131 or you can email Crystal Sanford, Program Operations Administrator, at Crystal.Sanford@FLHealth.gov.
